LG removed Smart IPTV from the webOS Content Store in late 2023, following broadcaster complaints. That knocked out the default IPTV path on millions of LG TVs overnight. Here are the three workarounds that still work in April 2026.
Method 1 — Set IPTV
Set IPTV is the direct replacement for Smart IPTV and still ships in the LG Content Store. MAC-based activation, same UX, €20 lifetime (higher than SIPTV but still a one-time fee).
- On your LG TV: open Content Store, search Set IPTV, install.
- Launch it and note the MAC address it displays.
- On a computer: go to setiptv.com/activation, enter the MAC, pay €20 (PayPal or card).
- Upload your M3U file or URL via the same dashboard.
- Restart the app on the TV.
Method 2 — OTT Navigator (dev mode)
OTT Navigator isn't in the LG store, but webOS Dev Mode lets you sideload .ipk packages from a PC. It's free, feature-rich (multi-playlist, EPG, timeshift), and runs natively. The catch: Dev Mode needs renewal every 50 days unless you pay for a developer account ($100/year).
Steps are involved — install webOS TV Developer Mode from the Content Store, sign up for a free LG developer account, enable Key Server on the TV, then use LG's webOS CLI from a PC to push the .ipk. Not for the faint-hearted. Full walkthrough on LG's webostv.developer.lge.com.
Method 3 — External device
Plug a Fire TV Stick 4K Max or an Apple TV 4K into the LG's HDMI port and bypass webOS entirely. Cost: $60 (Firestick) or $149 (Apple TV). This is what we recommend for anyone whose LG predates the 2022 models — dev mode on older webOS is flakier, and Set IPTV doesn't install cleanly on webOS 5.0 and older.
