Why does my IPTV only buffer at night? (And how to fix it)

Nightly buffering from 7–11pm is almost always your ISP under peak load, not your IPTV service. Here is how to confirm and fix it.

If your IPTV works perfectly during the day but buffers every evening between 7pm and 11pm, the problem is almost never your IPTV provider. It's ISP peak-hour congestion — the same reason your neighbour's Netflix stutters at the same time.

Confirm it is your ISP, not your IPTV

  1. Open Netflix on a phone or laptop at the moment IPTV is buffering.
  2. Start a 4K Netflix title. If Netflix also drops to SD or buffers, the issue is your internet.
  3. Run a speed test on the IPTV device itself (not a different device in a different room). <25 Mbps during peak evenings = confirmed ISP congestion.

The fix: QoS on your router

Enabling QoS (Quality of Service) on your router tells the router to prioritise video streaming packets over everyone else on your LAN. It's the single most effective fix for nightly IPTV buffering — see our router configuration guide for exact settings on Asus, GL.iNet, and OpenWrt.

The other fix: change DNS

Some ISPs throttle specific CDN hosts. Changing your device's DNS to 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 9.9.9.9 (Quad9) sometimes resolves IPTV streams to a different CDN node that isn't throttled by your ISP. Takes 30 seconds, often makes a measurable difference.
