Fix "no EPG / TV guide is empty" — the tvg-id matching problem

Channels play but the TV guide is blank or only shows "no information available". Here is why and how to fix.

Empty EPG is almost always a tvg-id mismatch — your M3U labels a channel one way, but the XMLTV feed labels the same channel differently, and the player can't match them.

Confirm the mismatch

Open your .m3u in a text editor. Find a channel with empty EPG. Note its tvg-id="..." value. Now open the XMLTV URL in a browser. Search for the same channel name — what's the channel id="..." attribute?

If the tvg-id in the M3U is BBC One but the XMLTV uses BBCOneHD.uk, that's the mismatch. The player has no way to know they're the same channel.

Fix — manual edit

Open the .m3u in a text editor. Replace tvg-id="BBC One" with tvg-id="BBCOneHD.uk". Save. Reload in your player.

Fix — automated

Visit m3u4u.com. Upload your .m3u, select an XMLTV source, and it auto-matches channels. Downloads a corrected .m3u. Free for basic use.
